116 शिष्य

फूल खिला हो, नगर के बीचों बीच खिला हो, पर मधु का अभिलाषी भंवरा न हो, तो बिखरती सुगंध की कीमत कौन करे? सूर्य निकला हो, सुंदर परिदृश्य हो, पर देखने वाली आँख ही न हो, तो प्रकाश की कीमत क्या रहे? कितनी ही अमृततुल्य वर्षा हो, पर भूमि ही बंजर हो, तो अन्न कैसे उपजे?

योंही आत्मज्ञानी महात्मा तो उपलब्ध हों, सुलभ हों, पर मुमुक्षु शिष्य न हों, तो ज्ञान परंपरा आगे कैसे बढ़े?

चर्चा चलती है, कि गुरू कैसा हो? मेरे भाई बहन! यह विचार तो एक ओर है, जरा दूसरी ओर भी तो देखो कि शिष्य कैसा हो?

रामकृष्ण ने नरेन्द्र को पैर के अंगूठे से छू दिया तो विवेकानन्द पैदा हुआ। विचार करो कि क्या रामकृष्ण के पास एक नरेन्द्र ही पहुँचा? पहुँचे तो बहुत, पर सब विवेकानन्द नहीं बने। विवेकानन्द तो एक ही बना। क्योंकि रामकृष्ण के सामर्थ्य की बात नहीं है, बात नरेन्द्र की है। रामकृष्ण का सामर्थ्य तो पूर्ण था। इतना कि लाखों नरेन्द्र होते तो लाखों विवेकानन्द बन जाते, पर  नरेन्द्र तो एक ही था।

"हमें तो रामकृष्ण जैसे गुरू चाहिएँ" ऐसा कहने वाले अपने भीतर भी तो झाँक कर देखें, कि वे नरेन्द्र हैं क्या? और रहस्य यह है कि आप नरेन्द्र हो जाओ, तो रामकृष्ण सदा यहीं हैं। भगवान अपने से व्यवस्था करते हैं।

आप पूछते हैं, "मैं संत को पहचानूं कैसे?" मेरे भैया! संत को पहचानने की फिक्र में मत पड़ो, अपने साधकपने को पहचानो। भीतर प्यास दृढ़ हो, तो भगवान संत से मिला भी देते हैं, उनकी पहचान भी करा देते हैं।

अश्रद्धावान, दोषदृष्टि वाला, चंचलबुद्धि, मनमुखी, तोताजिव्हा, व्यसनी, लोभी, आलसी और लंपट शिष्य तो न ही हो तो अच्छा है। वे तो अपने जीवन, अपनी विद्या और अपने गुरू को भी कलंकित ही करते हैं।

लोकेशानन्द की सनद है कि शिष्य सच्चा मुमुक्षु हो, तो वे सद्गुरू, थोड़ी सी ही सेवा से प्रसन्न होकर, उस शिष्य को, हीनता, दीनता, दरिद्रता और दुख से, सदा सदा के लिए छुड़ाकर, परब्रह्म की प्राप्ति करा देते हैं।

Flower is blooming in the middle of the city, but if there is no bee, then who will value the flowing fragrance? If the sun has come out, there is a beautiful landscape, but there is no eye to see, then what is the value of light? No matter how much rain is there, but if the land itself is barren, then how can the grain grow?

Likewise if enlightened Mahatma is available, readily accessible, but there is no disciple, how can the tradition of knowledge progress?

Discussion goes on, "How should be the teacher?" My siblings! This idea is on one side, just look on the other side, "How should the disciple be like?"

Vivekanand was born when Ramkrishna touched Narendra with his toe. Consider if only one Narendra reached Ramakrishna? Many reached, but not all became Vivekanand. Only one became Vivekanand. Because it is not a matter of the eligibility of Ramakrishna, it is about Narendra. Ramakrishna's eligibility was absolute. So much that if there were millions of Narendra, then millions would become Vivekanand, but Narendra was only one.

Those who say "We need a guru like Ramakrishna" should look inside themselves also and see if they are Narendra? And the secret is that if you become Narendra, Ramakrishna is always here. Bhagwan arranges by Himself.

You ask, "How do I recognize a sant?" I say don't you worry about recognizing the sant, recognize your seekerself. If the yearning is strong inside, Bhagwan lets you meet a sant, and also makes you recognize him.

It is better to have no disciple, but having an irresponsible, blasphemous, playful, parrot-tongued, addicted, greedy, lazy and lustful deciple is not good. They only tarnish their life, their learning and their Guru.

Lokeshanand guarantees that if the disciple is a true seeker, then the guru is delighted with a little service, redeems that disciple from inferiority, lowliness, poverty and misery, forever, and gives salvation.
