127 गणेश निरूपण

गणेश जी के जन्म की कथा बड़ी विचित्र है। आज इसी पर थोड़ी चर्चा करेंगे। पहले, शंकर जी कौन हैं?

"वन्दे बोधमयं नित्यं गुरुं शंकर रूपिणम्"

आपके सद्गुरूदेव भगवान ही शिवतत्वनिष्ठ, शिव पद पर आसीन, शंकर हैं। कैलाश, ज्ञान के शिखर का नाम है, नंदी बैल आनन्ददायक धर्म का प्रतीक है। संसार सागर से पार जाने की इच्छा वाले साधक का नाम पार्वती है।

पार्वती जी स्नान करने गईं। तन को स्वच्छ करने की क्रिया का नाम स्नान है, और मन को स्वच्छ करने की प्रक्रिया का नाम ध्यान है। नया साधक ध्यान में बैठता है तो "मैं ध्यान कर रहा हूँ" ऐसा अहं खड़ा होता ही है। यह अहं ही मन का मैल है। यही पार्वती जी का मैल से एक बालक खड़ा कर देना है।

नियम यह है कि आप किसी भी साधन में क्यों न लगे हों, गुरूजी आ जाएँ तो तुरंत आसन त्याग कर प्रणाम करना चाहिए। पर अहं बाधा बनता है, "मैं ध्यान कर रहा हूँ, गुरूजी भी तो देखें"। यही उस बालक द्वारा शंकर जी का रास्ता रोकना है।

अब गुरूजी ही अंह का सिर न काटें तो अहं मिटे कैसे? अहं ही तो बंधन का मूल कारण है। अहं कट जाए, इसीलिए तो गुरूजी हैं। तो शंकर जी ने सिर काट दिया।

अब सावधान होकर पढ़ें। अहं दो प्रकार का है, "देहगत अहं" और "स्वरूपभूत अहं"। देहगत अहं ही मिटाना है, स्वरूपभूत अहं तो "अहं ब्रह्मास्मि" की उद्घोषणा है। इसीलिए शंकर जी को शुद्ध अहं कहा गया-

"अहंकार शिव बुद्धि अज मन शशि चित्त महान"

इधर गज भी स्वरूपभूत अहं का प्रतीक है, अतः उस बालक के धड़ पर गजशीश लगाया, ऐसा दिखाया गया है। हाथी का सिर लगे गणेश जी शुद्ध अहं रहितता ही हैं।

पुनः अहंकार रहित हो जाना ही सर्वप्रथम और सर्वश्रेष्ठ दैवीय गुण है। यही सब सद्गुणों का राजा है। सद्गुण ही सुरगण हैं, देवता हैं, इसीलिए लोकेशानन्द भी कहता है कि गणेश जी सर्वप्रथम पूजनीय देव हैं।

The rule is that no matter where you are engaged in any means, if Guru ji comes, then you should immediately leave the means and bow. But the ego becomes an obstacle, "I am meditating, even Guru ji should see". This is stopping Shankar ji's way by that child.

If Guru ji does not cut off the head of ego, how can the ego be erased? Ego is the root cause of bondage. After all Guruji is there only to cut the ego. So Shankar ji cut off his head.

Now read carefully. Ego is of two types, "Bodily ego" and "Pure self ego". Bodily ego is to be erased, pure self ego is the proclamation of "Aham Brahmasmi". That is why Shankar ji was called pure ego-

"Ahankar Shiv, Budhhi Ajj, Man Shashi, Chitta Mahaan"

Here, elephant is also a symbol of pure ego, so it is shown that elephant's head is placed on the body of that child. Ganesh with an elephant's head is pure self ego.

To become egoless is the first and best divine virtue. It is the king of all virtues. Virtues are the only deities, that is why Lokeshanand also says that Ganesh is the first to be worshiped.
