Mahatma Anand Swami used to tell a story. Very simple and important.
A horseman clinging to his horse, was galloping, someone asked- Where are you going so fast?
Clingingly he said- Ask this horse only, I had to go to Delhi.
And Delhi was in the opposite direction. Then came a puddle full of mud. And the horse entered the mud along with the horseman.
The horseman, covered in mud, came out with great difficulty, the turban also came off. Said- Now how will I be able to reach Delhi? There was a court appearance. Whatever happened here happened, if there is an order of imprisonment, then I will die. And maybe I'll even have to pay a fine.
My dear, that horseman is none other than us. This is our own story. The mind is the horse. We go where this mind takes us. If its bridle is not handled properly, if it is not moved counciously, then it moves on its own accord.
This horse named mind is very wonderful, it is of great use, and it moves very fast too. But its advantage is when it is in right direction. It shouldn't go where it wants to go, It should go in the direction it should go. Or it should also desire to go where it should go, where our destination is.
Otherwise, the same thing happens to us which happened to that horseman in this story. If the direction of mind is not right, instead of taking us to Paramatmanand, it leads us to the mud of misery, sin and lust.
Lokeshanand says that then turban comes off, the face goes black. You get imprisonment as birth and death in the prison called world and Maya forces you to dance as a fine separately.
