It's a small thing, but it's very important. If you understand it, then a big problem in devotion will be averted. Note, there are generally two types of seekers. One wise, the other foolish.
The wise considers the world to be false and engages in devotion. He gets something, or he doesn't get anything, for him there is no difference.
Whatever happens in the world, he has accepted the situation as it is. Also he behaves perfectly with everyone, behaves well, behaves lovingly. What does he want from someone? Nothing. He just has to be a devotee.
The fool thinks the world to be real and performs means. These foolish seekers are also of two types, first fool is the one who does means to attain the world, he runs towards the world. The second fool is he who does means to leave the world, he runs away from the world. One runs facing the world, the other runs with his back. But, both believe that world is real, both are running. If you see, the first one is a great fool, he is not even a seeker, he is a worldly being, but the second one is no less foolish.
Till now this second one used to say that I will not live without son, woman and money, now says that I will not live with son, woman and money. He used to say that I will not leave them, now says that I will not touch them. Just now he was dying to get, now he is dying to get away. Earlier he used to say- Come! Touch my feet! Now shouts- Beware! If you touched my feet. Earlier he was expecting, now ignoring.
The wise seeker does not run, he stops from within. Stopped where he is. He doesn't choose, he neither expects nor neglects.
And no matter how much one runs, he finds nothing, until he sits down. Lokeshanand says that by accepting each of his circumstances, the one who survived even in the blazing fire, he attained salvation.
