It is a very serious subject. If you understand it, then it is of great use.
There are two types of 'ego'. One is the 'ordinary ego' which is the condemnable ego, the other the 'pure ego' which is the venerable ego. The ordinary ego is the root cause of bondage, the pure ego proclaims salvation.
The ordinary ego is the ego known through senses, pure ego is the inbuilt ego. One is mortal, changeable, unstable ego; the other is immortal, never changing, eternal ego. One is senses-dependent ego, ego that is known; the other is the transcendent ego, from which everything is known.
Understand, everything that is considered as 'mine' on the base of the intellect, the sum of all that 'mine', is ordinary ego. The one which blooms when something is gained, and withers when something is lost, which believes himself the gross body while waking, believes himself the subtle body in dream, which does not remain in sleep, unconsciousness and in trance is the ordinary ego. In whose shelter the human beings of the world say "me-me" like a goat, is the ordinary ego. This is the only cause of suffering.
But the one which knows this ego, which knows the intellect itself, which knows through the intellect, which knows everything that the intellect knows, the ego which is spontaneous, conscious, that which is my real being, which is the cause of salvation, is pure ego.
The one which remains awake, even when the intellect is absorbed in the state of sleep, when the intellect does not remain, and knows that at present intellect is not knowing anything, is pure ego.
This is the pure form of you and Lokeshanand. This is the Shiva element as described in Aham Brahmasmi. This is the pure ego. That's me.
