"हाथियों के दाँतों के खिलौने बने भाँत भाँत।

बाघन की खाल राजे राणे मन भायी है॥

पशुओं की खाल के अनेक सुंदर जूते बने।

बकरे की खाल संग पानी भर लाई है॥

कहे कवि गंगाराम हरि के भजन बिना।

मानुष की खाल किसी काम में ना आई है॥"

चार पैसे कमाकर कोई घर बना लेना, विवाह करके बच्चे पैदा कर लेना, खा-पीकर अंततः रोग से ग्रस्त हो जाना और मर जाना, यही संपूर्ण जीव जगत की कुल कहानी है। अब यदि मनुष्य कहलाने वाले किसी जीव के जीवन में धर्मानुसंधान न हो तो उसमें और शेष पशुओं में अंतर ही क्या रहा? बाल भर का भी नहीं!

कवि गंगाराम ने तो ठीक ही कहा है कि अन्य पशुओं की खाल तो किसी न किसी काम में आ ही जाती है, पर मनुष्य की खाल एक भगवान के भजन के अलावा किसी काम में नहीं आती। आप स्वयं विचार करें कि आप के जीवन में यदि धर्माचरण न हो, तो वासनाओं की अंधी दौड़ के सिवा आपका जीवन क्या है?

वैज्ञानिक दृष्टिकोण से भी देखें तो इस शरीर में कुल माल है ही कितना? इसमें थोड़ी बहुत तो चर्बी है कि जिससे साबुन की पच्चीस टिकियाँ बन जाएँ। कुछ गन्धक है कि जिससे माचिस की बीस डिबियाँ बन सकें। इतना चूना है कि एक छोटे कमरे की जिससे दीवारों पर पुताई हो सके। थोड़ा सा लोहा है कि जिससे एक दो इंच लम्बी पतली कील बनाई जा सके। साथ ही थोड़ी सी शक्कर, थोड़ा सा नमक और तैंतीस किलो पानी भी है। बस इसके अतिरिक्त तो इस मनुष्य देह में ना के बराबर ताँबा, टिन और जस्ता आदि ही है। इन सब वस्तुओं का कुल मूल्य किसी समय एक रुपया भी नहीं था। आजकल शायद एक हजार रुपए से भी कम होगा। जड़ तत्वों की कीमत लगाएँ तो इससे अधिक मूल्य नहीं है इस शरीर का।

पर एक बात है, यदि इससे परमात्मा प्राप्ति का साधन कर लिया जाए तब यह इतना कीमती हो जाता है कि सारी दुनिया की समस्त सम्पत्ति भी उसके सामने मिट्टी है। यदि नहीं, तो कवि बेणी ने यहाँ तक लिखा है-

राग कीन्हो रंग कीन्हो तरुणी प्रसंग कीन्हो,

अंग कियो चिकनो सुगंध लाय चोली में।

नेह कीन्हो गेह कीन्हो सुखद सनेह कीन्हो,

खेल सा दिखाय चल्यो चार दिन टोली में॥

कहै कवि बेणी हरि भजन ना कियो मूढ़,

उमर बिताय दीन्हो नाहक ठिठोली में।

डोलत ना बोलत ना खोलत पलक हाय,

काठ से धरे हैं आज काठ की खटोली में॥

लोकेशानन्द कहता है कि इससे पहले कि आपकी देह भी काठ होकर काठ पर लेट जाए, किन्हीं संत के चरणों में बैठ कर भजन कर लो।

Poet Gangaram says that elephant teeth are used in making different types of toys, tiger's skin is used by kings, goat's skin is used for carrying water, other animal's skin makes shoes, but without worshiping Bhagwan, human skin is of no use.

Earning something to build a house, get married and have children, after eating and drinking, eventually suffering from disease and dying, this is the total story of the entire living world. Now if there is no spiritual touch in the life of any creature called human, then what is the difference between him and the rest of the animals? No difference at all!

Poet Gangaram has rightly said that every animal's skin is useful in some way or the other, but human skin is of no use except Bhagwan's worship.

Think yourself that if there is no religious conduct in your life, then what is your life other than the blind race of desires?

Even from a scientific point of view, how much is the total material in this body? There is fat, which can make twenty-five soap bars. Some sulfur that twenty matchbox can be made. Little bit of lime to paint a small room. Some iron to make a two inches long thin nail. As well as a little sugar, a little salt and thirty three kilograms of water. Just in addition to this, there is some copper, tin and zinc in this human body. The total value of all these at one time was not even a rupee. Nowadays it would probably be less than a thousand rupees. If you put the cost of inert elements, this body is not worth more than this.

But there is one thing, if it is made a means of attaining Bhagwan, then it becomes so precious that even all the wealth of the whole world is dust in front of it. If not, then poet Beni has even written-

Loved a lot, played a lot, had affection, had a lustful affair, groomed the body by applying perfume all over, spent the whole life in frivolous jokes, but the fool never worshiped Bhagwan. Today he doesn't move, neither speaks nor opens his eyes, today he is lying in a wooden crate being a wood.

Lokeshanand says that before your body becomes wood and lies on the wood, sit at the feet of some enlightened sant and do hymn.
