Guru's sermon is not a bowl of such a drink, that a disciple could drink it by touching it to his lips and and the disciple becomes enlightened. The aspirant of enlightenment, if wants to achieve his goal of attainment of being enlightened, then he should become one with his Guru.
Just as a tortoise keeps looking at her children even when she is away, and by watching them, the stomach of her children is filled automatically. If she takes away her eyes from any of her children even for a moment, then that child remains hungry. Similarly the disciple who gets oneness with his guru, only that disciple attains enlightenment. If there is even a slight lack of oneness, there is no benefit.
The Guru imparts occult knowledge, and the disciple by renouncing the ego of his caste and cult, acquires that knowledge. Because if a disciple renounces this ego, then only he can attain knowledge immediately.
It is good to beg in the street of Chandalas with thatch in hand, but it is not good to live in ignorance. It is not good to enjoy happiness while being ignorant, but it is better that he may become a beggar but attain the knowledge of Brahm.
If the disciple keeps the attachment to the body, then no matter how much he listens to the teachings of guru ji, he remains empty of knowledge. Even if he memorizes everything, even if he starts preaching, even if he gathers congregation, no matter how much prestige he gets, but he remains blank. By selling the knowledge gained, he may indulge in pleasures, but his welfare is not possible! Not possible! Not possible!
Lokeshanand says that the efforts of his Gurudev Bhagwan, done for such a disciple, goes in vain.
