263 चित्रकूट का वृक्ष

यह कथा लोकेशानन्द को बहुत प्रिय है, आप भी ध्यान देकर पढ़ें।

चित्रकूट में एकबार एक पत्र पुष्प विहीन ठूँठ पर भगवान की दृष्टि पड़ी। एक जड़ विहीन अमरबेल उस ठूँठ से लिपटी थी। अमरबेल की हरियाली से, वह ठूँठ हरा भरा लग रहा था।

सीता जी ने पूछा, प्रभु! इतने ध्यान क्या देख रहे हैं?

राम जी ने कहा, आप वह ठूँठ देखती हैं, कितना भाग्यशाली है, इसके पास अपनी कुछ शोभा नहीं है, फिर भी यह कितना धन्य है, कि इसे इस अमरबेल का संग मिला, इसकी पूरी शोभा इस बेल के कारण है।

सीता जी कहने लगीं, प्रभु! धन्य तो यह अमरबेल है, जिसे ऐसा आश्रय मिल गया। नहीं तो यह जड़हीन बेल भूमि पर ही पड़ी दम तोड़ देती, कैसे तो ऊपर उठती, कैसे फलती फूलती, कैसे सौंदर्य को प्राप्त होती? भाग्य तो इस बेल का है, वृक्ष का तो अनुग्रह है।

अब निर्णय कौन करे? दोनों ही लक्ष्मण जी की ओर देखने लगे। लक्ष्मण जी ने देखा कि उस वृक्ष और बेल से बनी छाया में एक पक्षी बैठा है।

लक्ष्मण जी की आँखें भीग आईं। कहने लगे, भगवान! न तो यह वृक्ष धन्य है, न बेल। धन्य तो यह पक्षी है, जिसे इन दोनों की छाया मिली है।

ध्यान दें, ब्रह्म तो वृक्ष जैसा अविचल है, वह बस है, जैसा है वैसा है, तटस्थ है। जब भक्ति रूपी लता इससे लिपट जाती है, तब ही यह शोभा को प्राप्त होता है।

तो भगवान का मत है कि हमारी शोभा तो भक्ति से है।

सीता जी का मत है कि भगवान के ही कारण भक्ति को सहारा है, भगवान की शरण ही न हो, तो शरणागत कहाँ जाएँ? दीनबंधु ही न होते, तो दीनों को पूछता कौन?

पर लक्ष्मण जी का मत है कि धन्य तो मैं हूँ, माने वह जीव धन्य है, जिसे भक्ति और भगवान दोनों की कृपा मिलती है।

This story is very dear to Lokeshanand. You read carefully-

Once in Chitrakoot, Shri Ram saw a leafless tree trunk. A rootless dodder vine was wrapped with that tree. From dodder's greenery, that tree trunk looked green.

Sita asked- Bhagwan! What are you looking at with so much attention?

Ram said- You see that tree? how lucky it is, it doesn't have anything of its own, yet how blessed it is that it got along with this vine, its entire beauty is due to this vine only.

Sita said- Bhagwan! Blessed is this vine, who found such a shelter. Otherwise this rootless vine would have died on the ground, how would it rise, how would it flourish, how would beauty be attained? Luck is of the vine, the tree has grace.

Who should decide now? Both looked at Lakshman. Lakshman saw a bird sitting in the shadow made of that tree and vine. Lakshman's eyes got wet. He said- Bhagwan! Neither this tree is blessed nor vine. Blessed is this bird, who has got the shadow of both of them.

Note that 'Brahm' is just like that tree trunk, it is just as it is, it is neutral. When the vine in the form of devotion clings to it, only then he attains grace.

So Ram believes that my beauty is with devotion.

Sita Ji is of the opinion that due to Bhagwan, devotion is supported. If there is no refuge of Bhagwan, where do the refugees go? If the helper of the poors was not there, who would ask the poors?

But Lakshman is of the opinion that I am blessed, he believes that such a human is blessed, who gets the blessings of both devotion and Bhagwan.
