270 कौशल्या माँ की अवस्था

भरत जी कौशल्या जी के महल के दरवाजे पर आ तो पहुँचे, पर भीतर जाने की हिम्मत नहीं हो रही, बाहर ही खड़े रह गए।

माँ खिड़की पर बैठी हैं, सामने पेड़ पर एक कौआ काँव काँव कर रहा है, आँसुओं की धारा बह चली। कौन आएगा? क्या पिता के जाने का समाचार राम को अयोध्या खींच ला सकता है?

मेरा हृदय पत्थर का बना है, तभी तो राम को जाते देखकर भी यह फट नहीं गया, प्रेम तो महाराज ने ही निभाया है, मैं तो क्रूर काल के हाथों ठगी गई । यदि राम एकबार आ गए, तो मैं उनके चरणों से लिपट जाऊँगी, फिर जाने नहीं दूंगी।

पर क्या वे आएँगे? अ कौए! अगर राम आ गए, तो तेरी चोंच सोने से मंढवा दूंगी, तुझे रोज मालपुआ बना बनाकर खिलाऊँगी।

हाए! हाए! न मालूम वो इस समय कहाँ होंगे, किस हाल में होंगे? वर्षा ऋतु है, भीगने से बचने के लिए तीनों किसी वृक्ष के नीचे खड़े होंगे?

क्या विधाता ने ये महल मेरे लिए ही बनाए हैं? वे वन में ठोकरें खा रहे हैं, मैं महलों में ही पड़ी हूँ। सत्य है, मूल के लिए ब्याज छोड़ दिया, पर अब तो मूल भी चला गया, सब कुछ लुट गया!

बड़बड़ाना बंद हुआ तो ध्यान दिया, बाहर किसी के सिसकने की आवाज आ रही है। छोटे छोटे कदम धरती हैं, पाँच ही दिन में माँ पर बुढ़ापा उतर आया है।

इधर भरत जी ने आहट सुनी, पहचान गए, माँ आ रही हैं। हाथों से चेहरा ढक लिया। राममाता पूछती हैं, कौन हो? चेहरा क्यों नहीं दिखाते? क्या तुम राम हो? भरत जी का बाँध टूट गया, ऐसी दहाड़ माँ के कानों में पहली बार पड़ी है। भरभराती आवाज आई "भरत हूँ माँ!"

भरत! मेरा भरत बेटा आ गया। मेरा भरत! चेहरा तो दिखा दो बेटा, दिखाते क्यों नहीं?

माँ! मेरा चेहरा मत देखो, इतना पाप चढ़ गया है मुझपर, मेरा चेहरा देखनेवाले को भी पाप लग जाएगा।

लोकेशानन्द ने देखा कि कौशल्या जी ने भरत जी को छाती से लगा लिया।

Bharat reached the door of Kaushalya's palace, but didn't dare to go in, remained standing outside.

Mother is sitting at the window, a crow is croaking on the tree in front, a stream of tears swept away. She murmurs, "Who will come? Can the news of father's departure bring Ram to Ayodhya?"

When the murmur stopped, she noticed that there is a sound of someone sobbing outside. She takes small steps, mother has become old in five days only.

Here Bharat heard a chirm, and recognized that mother is coming. He covered his face with his own hands.

Mother asks- Who are you? Why don't you show your face? Are you Ram? Bharat's patience broke, such a roar is lying in the mother's ears for the first time. There was a loud voice, "Mother! I am Bharat."

"Bharat! My son Bharat came. My Bharat! Show me your face son, why don't you show it?" said Mother.

Bharat- "Mother! Don't look at my face, there is so much sin on my forehead, even the one watching my face will become a sinner."

Lokeshanand saw that Kaushalya stucked Bharat to her chest.
